Release[]
The LPS Friends title was first released on October 20, 2009,[1] seven months after Littlest Pet Shop: Spring, the last addition to the previous game series.[2]
The approximate original retail values[3] were as follows:
Littlest Pet Shop: Friends (Wii) $39.99[4]
LPS: Country, City, and Beach Friends (DS) $29.99[5]
LPS: Country, City, and Beach Friends (DS) Exclusive Toys R Us Bundle $34.99[6]
The aforementioned Toys R Us Bundle included both the game and two physical pets exclusive to its respective version.
Story[]
The game follows the story of a bear who has just arrived to the Littlest Pet Shop world, and is waiting for their caterpillar friend to join them. However, the bear receives a letter saying that “big changes” are coming, leading to the assumption that a surprise will be awaiting the pets! The bear is given a stick with a peculiar looking cocoon attached to take along to their new home. The friends that this bear meets decide to throw a surprise party for the caterpillar, taking them on a fun adventure full of games, quests, and new friends along the way.
When the player has completed all quests and is finished preparing the Party Palace, a cutscene will play in which during the party, the caterpillar emerges from the cocoon as a butterfly. The two friends are reunited and celebrate the transformation, later unlocking the Uptown area where the butterfly’s home is located.
Gameplay[]
The main quests of the game revolve around gathering materials for the Party Palace and inviting pets to add to the party’s guestlist. The player is able to collect items for quests, interact with the environment, play minigames, and open up new areas as the story progresses. Some materials can only be collected by switching to a capable pet. As with the previous games, Kibble Coins are used as currency and can be used to buy items within the game.
The building and tree concept art was done by illustrator Gibbs Rainock. Visit the following links for his about page and LPS project page.

Trivia[]
- This game has introduced several features not included in the first game, but have been carried over to Biggest Stars. Firstly, it includes a story mode which has to be played through in order to unlock content such as clothing and mini-games as well as dialogue and more distinct personalities for each pet. It also includes collecting ingredients to create items such as food, toys, and decorations which can be gifted to a pet, though there is much more of a variety and some requiring a certain type of pet to obtain them as compared to Biggest Stars.
- Occasionally a glitch occurs in which custom outfits take on strange colors or patterns. This can be corrected simply by entering a building or area to reset the animation.
- In a pre-release promotional image, the Country Friends DS game is pictured with a green case; its official design, however, was released in yellow.
- Within the game booklet, Leopard #852 is mistakenly printed as Leopard #854. The number is, however, written correctly on the back of its game case.
- Although LPS Zebra #903 and Tiger #905 are listed as the City Friends exclusives, the two physical pets included in the Toys R Us Bundle are remakes numbered as Zebra #1266 and Tiger #1267.
